Here we are. The first blog post I have ever made. I will go more in-depth on what you can be expecting on my blog in a later post. For now, I want to talk about a project me and friends have joked about for years, well, now it's a reality.
I have unfortunately always been a picky eater which has limited what I can enjoy in the food world. While being a picky eater, one of my favourite dishes is a good old burger, but contrary to how many others want their burger, I want mine completely plain. This means no cheese, bacon or anything of the sort.
A couple of years ago I started to take notes about my burgers (or at least the ones that stood out). This was because I started to notice a lot of restaurants heavily relies on the toppings of a burger to make it any good while leaving out any considerations for the meat. While all parts of the burger are important I'd argue that the meat should be the star of the dish. Due to this, I wanted to start taking notes of where I knew I could find a good burger.
Fast forward some years and now I have a platform where I can put it all out in the world for other burger lovers to find, looking for the places that sell truly great burgers.
This is compiled into a section I am simply calling "Burger Reviews". Here I plan on sharing some of my best experiences eating burgers all around the world. Most will be from Norway as this is where I am based, but I will be doing reviews whenever I travel. I'll also be conducting reviews on mainstream places such as McD and BK later on, but for now, enjoy the first of many delicious burgers to come.
...as I started to enjoy one of the best burgers of my life.
It was a windy autumn day, I had some spare hours before catching my bus home from the capital and a hunger for a burger rose. That's when I stumbled upon one truly remarkable burger at Tommi's Burger Joint in Oslo, Norway. While the facility itself might not have been big it was the perfect combination of a vintage style with a feel of being handmade.
Upon further inspection of the joint, it started to feel like it was tailored for me. The menu was plain and simple, no smokes and mirrors by having pages upon pages with all the different toppings. Just a simple list of basically how much meat you wanted for your burger. Combined with a fun play with the typography I was truly intrigued.
In the end, I settled for a plain Classic Beef Burger. After a short period, I was presented with a nicely wrapped burger with a good amount of fries to go with it, accompanied by my beverage of choice, a chocolate milkshake.
Simply put I was not prepared for what followed, as I started to enjoy one of the best burgers of my life. Juicyness, meaty with perfectly fluffy and crunchy bread. Tommi's burger was truly remarkable in their taste no doubt, accompanied by delicious fries and the few toppings I do enjoy available (crunchy onion bits and ketchup), it was almost unbelievable.
I can count on one hand the burgers that have blown me away by their taste, and Tommi's Burger Joint was easily one of them. You can find charts showing more in-depth data about my experience at the bottom.
After my encounter with Tommi's, I was always excited to come back to Oslo to ones again enjoy such a marvellous burger. Unfortunately, I was only able to experience this joy once as the next time I came around to have a burger the site had closed permanently. Genuinely made my day a bit bleaker, but I should be grateful to at least being able to try it once.
